I've been following the making of this album for quite sometime. I have been a fan of Aborym for quite sometime but admittedly wasn't very keen on their last 2 efforts. But yet here we are, a massive 2 disc effort and first for polish label Agonia Records. The second disc contains covers of tracks from NIN, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden,2 reworked versions of older songs Fire Walk With Us and Roma Divina Urbs as well as a new track not featured on the main disc Need For Limited Loss. But lets get to the main attraction shall we. Opener Irreversible Crisis beginning sounds like the soundtrack to a snuff film or some dirty depraved memories caught on film before the blasting Bm riffiing kicks in with Vocalist Malfeitor Fabban rasping and howling his way thru paint by number industrial metal. I don't really know what to think of the whole Marilyn Manson clean vocal chorus, I think I will leave that alone. I dug the mix of electronic and acoustic drums alongside the electro beats. It all blends well, but fuck me!!! That chorus just ruins the song!!! Moving along to the title track Dirty, riffs chug along to a an honestly catchy electronic beat that pulses like a heartbeat. This track is probably the best example of how Aborym mixes, electronic, acoustic, and pulls it off very honestly. Raped by Daddy is probably my favorite track on this album, it is probably the most "black metal" sounding track on the record, Faust's double bass furiously propelling the track next to agro riffing. Again the electronic elements are sprinkled in giving the track a nice break from the blasting. Aborym again switches moods faster then a kid with severe mood swings, but they do it flawlessly and effortlessly. Another standout track for me is Helter Skelter Youth. This song is just catchy, Fabbans vocals rasping about how the world is gonna burn alongside chugging riffs and a mostly electronic beat driving the song onwards. Face The Reptile explodes with it's industrial black metal leanings but again loses it's luster by the appearance of clean singing. I am not a hater of clean vocals when they are executed well but I just am not feeling it. Maybe a session vocalist next time for those times when clean singing is needed. Closing track The Day The Sun Stopped Shining again opens with a bit of symphonic black metal again the highlight being Faust's drumming and fills. This is probably the only track on the record showcasing clean singing where I can honestly say it works. Fabban is obviously confident in his ability to execute these vocals and on this track it actually doesn't ruin it. I also dug the atmosphere on this track, bringing to mind Pink Floyd in parts of the song. It almost makes you feel like the sun is shining on your face....almost.I would have loved to hear the Comfortably Numb cover but unfortunately I didn't have access to that. However the Iron Maiden cover.....well lets just say it is different and leave it at that. The Nine Inch Nails cover on the other hand was what I expected it to be. It doesn't really sound much different from the original which kinda sucks cause I would have liked to hear Aborym put their own disturbed touch on this tune. I also sadly could hear the re working of the older tunes but it's always hit or miss with stuff like that. In closing this album is overall a better effort then 2010's Psychogrotesque. This band seems to be all about progression as they have more or less left the Black Metal part of their sound in the past and seem to be about stretching the boundaries of their sound as much as they can. While the clean vocals may appeal to some, I though they were not needed. Overall Aborym are to be respected for doing whatever the fuck they want and should be the blueprint for any band that want to make "industrial metal". The album title is fitting for the music contained here, ambitious but still somehow grounded in the past . Filthy indeed.
