Dizziness Interview
Dizziness is a Black Metal Band from Greece.
Today I have the opportunity and pleasure of interviewing their
guitarist Moscho !
1) Good morning or is it afternoon there now...Anyways.
Dizziness started not so long ago in 2008.
Tell me how Dizziness came to be....
Moscho : Hello to you too. its a cold rainy afternoon here
in Greece. I met Pyriflegethon in early 2008 after I went out for beers with my
good friend from college who would later become our first vocalist Tantalos,
Pyriflegethon was a very good friend of Tantalos. We had common music
interests and we said let’s try some jamming, so that’s how it began our
story...
2) After just one year your original vocalist, Tantalos left the band
and you replaced him with Skylephtis just in time for your first release
''Evocation Of Ancestral Grandeur'' in 2010!
Was the original vocalist already in the works of this new album when he
left or...explain that situation as it happened.
Moscho: No the material was written just before the
recordings, actually the song As centuries fall was written 2 days before the
recordings. The material that we were working with Tantalos was very raw and
very different from what we are doing now, if I remember right Polemos might be
one song that we may did together but i can’t remember.
3) Dizziness did a split with the band Lykauges " ''At The
Whirlwind Of Our Storm'' released in 2012 on tape and CD.
Did you guys work on brand new song for this split and how many songs did
you contribute to this tape?
Moscho: We recorded 3 songs and Lycauges also another 3 for
the cd which was supposed to be the original release via Azermedoth records but
because we had some trouble with it, so we did the tape and we added 1 song
each, just to be a different release, and we released it via War Productions who
are very good people and friends of Dizziness
4) Shortly after the split was released you guys welcomed drummer Yngve.
How has things been going with him so far and who did he replace and
why?
Moscho: He is an amazing drummer and with lots of
experience, something that we needed. He has worked with many bands like Mortuss
Sum, W.E.B. Acherontas, Mors In Tabula and many more. He replaced Skylephtis
(who did the vocals, drums and the mixing on the demo and split) because
Skylephtis had much work with other bands and progects and he didn’t had the
time to focus on only one band.
5) Around the same time as your new drummer came to be, you also
welcomed
Gareth as your vocalist....So was Skylephtis just a session vocalist
for your first album? How has things been with pretty much a whole new
line-up aside from yourself and guitarist/bassist Pyriflegethon?
Moscho: The main core is always me and Pyriflegethon, we
make the decisions and we create the music but we always consult Yngve (who also
contributed on some writing on the album) who is now an official permanent
member of the band and also Gareth. Both Gareth and Yngve are much more
experienced from us two and they know some things better. Now as about the
session members both Gareth and Skylephtis chose to be session members, its
their decision and we agreed
6) in 5 years you guys seem to have been through quite the change of band
members. Do you think with the line up you have today that things are finally as
they should be and ready to push on as a team for the long run?
Moscho: We aim to last as much longer it is possible of
course and make the best of our potential. The current line up is strong and the
most creative. i hope to last as much as possible
7) So you guys just released your latest album ''Offermort Heritage'' which
released by Apocalyptic Art Records. Is this correct?
How has the response been from your listeners? Is the band pleased with how
this album turned out and do you wish now maybe some changes would have been
made?
Moscho: Yeah in March we released our first full album from
Apocalyptic Arts and all comments are amazing, from press and people we have me.
Most people are amazed about how much melody we have and how clean and strong is
the production that has been made in Made In Hell studios. We all loved the
result but as all creative people we are never quite satisfied with the result,
always there is something that we could have added, we want more and more haha.
Even now we come up with riffs for the songs that we didn’t think back then but
its ok we may put them on live versions haha
8) Please tell me a bit more about this 4 way split Dizziness has coming
with Mortuus Caelum, Morbid Fog and Enoid!
I know you guys have been working on 3 brand new songs for this split.
We also discussed a label....?
Can you explain a bit about what is going on with this split in more
detail? (if you can)
Moscho: Yes there is a split on the way with those 3 bands.
Most of the bands i think have already the material or they are about to finish
it. We have our 3 brand new songs one intro and two full songs and we are now
mixing them. The sound is the familiar Dizziness sound, fast warlike and full of
epic melodies. The release was supposed to be out in late 2013 or early 2014 but
now we have problems with the company and it is not so clear when it is gonna be
released, so we are in search for a company for now
9) Let us talk a bit about live gigs? Has there been any and if not, is
this something you have planned for the future?
Moscho: We had proposals for lives but we didn’t accept
because we didn’t felt that it was the right time back then. we didn’t had a
regular line up and we weren’t totally ready. Pyriflegethon and i believe that a
live must be perfect in any way, you have to respect the people that pay the
ticket to come and see you and not to give a poor performance just to say you
did a live, plus you have to give something more. As we speak we are working
hard on the rehearsals and there may be some lives in late
2013
10) Can you take a couple minutes to describe your music to those who
haven't checked out your music yet? What are some of the band's influences as
far as music and lyrical themes go?
Moscho: We play Hellenic black metal. meaning, fast and
strong songs but also with a lot of melody. Our songs talk about battles,
mysticism and ancient Greek history and literature. We are deeply influenced by
Greek bands like Kawir, Naer Mataron, Varathron but also Mayhem Satyricon and
Immortal
11) I know you had T-shirts available at one point for your latest release
''Offermort Heritage''
Last I heard there were only a few left.
Are any left for sale and if so, where can we get one?
If not, are there any plans for making more in the near future?
Moscho: All T-shirts are gone by now, it was quite a
surprise because they were sold very fast. i think very soon we will have to
make an other bunch haha.
12) What are your future plans for Dizziness and I must ask....
What is with the band name?? Any meaning behind it like, people get dizzy
when they listen to your crazy and out of control black metal??? :)
Moscho: Hahaha actually yes, this our official joke
response, good guess, but no that’s not the reason. When we were brainstorming
about the name Pyriflegethon came up with that name and we liked it, so we said
lets keep it until we can find something better, you can
guess that we haven’t found anything since then hahaha. Now our future plans are
to find a label for the split first and to perfect our performance for the
lives. in between we continue non stop to write new material for future
releases.
13) Well I think we are drawing near to the end of this interview.
It was fun and I look forward to reading all your responses.
Would you like to leave your listeners or potential listeners with any
parting words?
Moscho: First i would like to thank you for the interview
for your time and your support. for the people i want to thank everybody who
listened our music and thank them for their good words and support and i hope to
meet each and everyone of you one day
