Kurgaall is a Satanic Black Metal Band from Italy...
I will question this band on their beliefs, their past and their future in
the world of METAL!!!
1) Hell-o!!! Nice surprise with this interview hu? Didn't think I was going
to send you one...? lol You are one
of my bands, of course I was going to do one with you.
So, how are you? Everything good in Italy nowadays?
Oh well, We're glad to do this interview, here in Italy it's all Ok!
We have a lot of things in serbe and we are working a lot for making them possible!
2) So, Kurgaall has been around for about 5 years now, right?
How did it all begin?
All Begun in 2008, When I (Lord Astaroth) decided to start this black metal
project, with the primary goal to create a band opposite to the actual tendence of experimenting, that
could hurt with its killer sound, fast, aggressive and influenced by the old school of black metal.
3) When I listen to your music I go through a trip back in time...You guys
do it the old school way. Keeping BM
as it should be I suppose....
What is your outlook on BM these days? Too many bullshit bands consuming
space?
You see, in this period lot of bands pretends to be black metal... but
without playing it! this is a genre that was not born to be technical or symphonyc, it was created to spread
blasphemy, wrath and violence, you can not deny his nature! Many bands unfortunately chosen to mix elements that
are absolutely un-black with questionable results.... Obviously this tendence doesn't contamined all the
scene, so there are lot of valid groups that are still playing with rage and attitude.
4) You know what I like best about your band? It has got to be the fast
drumming and blast beats! Of course I like it all but the drums are great.
Makes me think of Black Metal back in the day...is this the vibe you are
trying to give off to your listeners?
Of course, you have totally caught what we want to communicate, our
listeners must have the impression to be catapulted in a black metal show of the nineties, absorbed in a true
evil atmosphere, totally involved in a blasphemous ritual
5) Kurgaall is a mix of 2 names...what two names is it and what do those 2
names mean to you or stand for. I assume it is directly related to your music, lyrical theme and life beliefs
within the occult!
Yes, Kurgaall is the union of two names and two doctrines of thought
that you could find in occultism and in the stories of Essop... but i will not explain the meaning because the
baptized and the fake virgins must not know it!
6) I try to keep my questions interesting but with bands nowadays, member
seem to come and go....has Kurgaall kept the same line up since the beginning or are there any new
member that have been added?
We changed line-up last summer, with the incoming of Aamon (the drummer)
and Azagaroth (the axeman), we have just performed many gigs with this formation, and we increased our
musical violence and live impact with this change!
7) Talking to you, I can tell you are an intelligent guy....Tell me about
the research and study you do that reflects and comes out in your music....
I lead studies on esotericism and occultism for many years and went
on together with my astral statement, in the realm of shiny ... my study is based on a Mediumistic Luciferian
Satanism... with addition of special blood rituals and philosophical rituals deepen from myself.
8) Today is the 18th of May!!! Don't you have a split that came out today
with Bleeding Fist entitled "Black Metal Mafia" ???
How did this split come to be and are you satisfied with how it turned out?
Yes, the split will be released very soon by Eternal Winter
Records... The collaboration with bleeding fist started 2 or 3 years ago, we immediately noticed that they have got the
true black metal attitude, which is not a very common thing... so started a great collaboration between us, and
first of all a great friendship, first than this release we performed some shows together in italy and in
slovenia, and we will promote this blasphemous release with a destructive live activity!
9) I hear a bit of a change in your new sound (Off your new split) compared
to your older material. Can you explain the change and why there was this slight change? Or am I just
imagining things??
You're right, it sounds different because it is the result of the work that
we did with the new line-up, so you can easily hear that there is a difference in the sound, compared to the
old works, due to the fact that now we have a new guitarist and a new drummer, with their own way of
playing.
10) Kurgaall gets their influence from the early 90's BM....
What are some of those bands that inspired you as a musician and which ones
actually are influenced in your music?
You know, we just want to recreate that atmospheres, so the influences are
inevitable! We really appreciate the Swedish black metal scene, bands like Dark
funeral, Setherial, Marduk...
11) I have yet to see you guys live...(Maybe one day you will come to the
states?) You have a bit of fire....mixed with a ritual of some kind and corpse paint and just an over all evil
atmosphere within the venue that I am sure draws the crowd in deeper.....Care to explain what you do as a band
right before you go on stage? Any "Ritual" that is performed amongst the band??
Before going on stage each member focuses on its way I can tell you that
within a species as in a psychic trance... the contact with the shiny is in place, and he uses me to sing...
I firmly believe in this!
ave lucifer!
12) You guys have some shows coming up....Are you headed to new and
unmarked territories and where do you most look forward to playing?
We have some live shows in Italy and then to the end of September we will
start with a real tour. for November we will touch europe, playing in countries that are still
unexplored for us... The Satanic horde arrived now!
13) You have played with some big name bands in the past like Enthroned,
Gorgoroth....Is there a band that you have not yet played with that you would like to and why??
Then surely we would love to play with dark funeral, because we like a lot
their style and their music, and they partly influence our sound.
14) So, sometimes at the end of the year you have plans to release a new
album " Voluntas Luciferi" What can we expect to hear from this album?
Anything different or will you stick to the old school ways of BM and Kurgaall?
Our main characteristics are still fast drumming, and an intense use of
blast-beat with sharp and cold guitar sounds, no keyboards, no female voices, no un-black contaminations or
other bullshits...
The new songs, that we started writing last year, are strongly affected by
the line-up changes, we gave more speed and harmony in the compositive phases of our new material, increasing
the use and the speed of blast-beats, sometimes the guitar plays alone, creating a "stop and go"
effect that gives a strong impact to the new tracks, making them an explosion of aggression... So there will be some
differences, but I am sure that the old Kurgaall fans will like a lot this next release!
15) They say that all good things must come to an end....and so the
interview must come to just that...an end. It was a pleasure speaking with you and look forward to your upcoming new
release. Any final words?
