FrostAgrath
FrostAgrath is a Depressive Black Metal band from Egypt.
One of the few bands out there these days that is played out of the true
love for
what he does and not for the publicity or the rock star status.
Enjoy this trip with me down depressive lane and find out with me just what
it takes
to make music from within!
1) Good evening Lord Mist. I hope all is well over there in Egypt.
How Is the metal scene over there anyways?
Lord Mist: First Of all, it's a great honor for me to be on this interview,
The metal scene here in Egypt is pretty good , we have a lots of bands from many different genres ,some of them are good friends of mine, for example their is "Zatreon,Sinprophecy,Grave Solace,Destiney In Chains.."and a lot more.
2) As I stated above, you can tell in your music that you play out of emotions, feelings and pure passion.
When did you decide that writing music was the best way for YOU to express yourself?
Lord Mist: Well, since I was a child I always had the dream to form a band, but I couldn't
find members with the same way of thinking ,Philosophy and influences.
I think I was about 15 or 16 years old when I decided to work on my own, so i
started to learn the piano, then the drum basics and how to program it.
I was taught to play guitar when I was just 10 or 11 years old ,then I learned
and I am still learning about the mixing and mastering.
After that, one day, I thought to record a track " Shattered February" and I
uploaded it as an instrumental, then I got a lot of good feedback.
At that point, I wanted just to unleash the sorrow within me , then I got that feeling that, this is what I
wanted to do in my life.
I want to create music . I was really lost then, and I was trying to help myself.
3) You just started FrostAgrath in 2011. Your band is still a baby yet you
have accomplished so much in such a short period of time.
For instance, in 2012 you released your first demo "A Depiction of Melancholic
Reality" What kind of response did you get from people who heard these 2 songs?
Lord Mist: Haha! Yes, it's still a young project and it's a long road to take ...
Well, I got a lot of good reviews and feedback on the two tracks, on the other hand, I got
some negative reviews about it ; because of the sound quality, the thing that
I am trying to avoid in the new releases and in the future.
4) So, you are the sole member of the band, how much time do you put into your
music and how long does it take on an average for you to create one song?
Lord Mist: You can say that all the time I am working on new stuff.
I have a lot of tracks that wasn't released yet, and I think I am not going to release it
soon because the music I create reflects only what's inside of my head, what I
really feel. It's like a mirror to my inner self.
The average time it takes to create one song for the composing ,sometimes I compose a track in two days other in 4 days
..it's about how much emotion I put while creating the track...
5) Just a few months ago you released your very first full length. "A Journey of Infinite Sorrow"
That would be the high point for a band I would think....their very first full length album.
How did it feel to get it in your hands and did it turn out as you had hoped?
Lord Mist: It's indeed the best feeling that a musician can feel after doing a lot of hard
work. I was very happy , especially when I received the news that the label
approved on releasing it. I was flying away from happiness, and yes I think it
turned out better than I expected.
6) Just a month later you released your single "Into a Dimensional Timeless Void"
What made you decide to release a single just a month after releasing the full length?
Lord Mist: In that track, I was having a very bad time in my life ,I channeled a very dark
and melancholic emotions in that track, then after I finished it I thought
that it would be a very good idea to to give away that track for free
download. It's like my way to show I appreciate the people and the fans who
supported me through all the time from the beginning of the band till now.
7) Seeing as you are the only member in the band will there ever be live
performance from you with some session musicians or do you prefer to record
alone and keep your music personal?
Lord Mist: For the recording part, I prefer to work solo because no one will feel the exact same way that I feel
while composing a track.
As for the live, I Have been thinking about that recently and I think maybe in the
future I may perform live.
8) From what I hear, FrostAgrath will be doing a Split Cd with the one man
project Viragha. Can you tell us a little about this split and will you be making a brand
new song just for this album or more then one song?
Lord Mist: It will be a two track split ,one for Frostagrath and the other for Viragha.
We have been working on it for almost a year now. My track will be also the last
track on my upcoming full-length "Extinguishing The Flame Of Life" the track
entitled " And Finally,The Death Caverns Will Carry Out My Soul"
It will be almost 17 minutes long with a very different atmosphere and a lot of improvement
in the sound quality, and Viragha's track will be entitled "Aadaraneeya Adhonawa Part II "
So far the recordings are going very well. It will be something for history,
I think it will be one of the best splits ever done.
Yet we didn't decide what label will release it or the release date for
it, but it will be very soon. A teaser for the split will be uploaded very soon
with more information, so stay tuned..
9) You seem to be feeling a bit low these days. Does this bring inspiration
to your music?
Lord Mist: Yes, actually it's the essence of my music. I only write what I feel, and I let the
music speaks for my hidden emotions.
10) What kind of hopes do you have for FrostAgrath and do you think your hopes
will become reality one day?
Lord Mist: When I first started Frostagrath, many of my friends were against it, they told me that
I won't make it and I won't succeed, but I think I proved them all wrong!
For now, I wish Frostagrath to become more popular and I wish to perform live in Wacken one day with Frostagrath,
and people will eventually start looking for metal bands from Countries unknown in the metal
scene, unexpected Countries...and I think, yes it may become real one day, that's what I wish for.
11) I see you like bands like Nargaroth, Anti and Drudkh.
Do any of these bands have any influence on your music and if so, in what
ways have these bands inspired you?
Lord Mist: Yes I am very influenced by them, especially "Anti" they created history in a
matter of minutes. I try to hold their musical concepts not just "Anti" but also " Nargaorth, Drudkh, Nyktalgia and Xasthur.." I am also influenced by a lot of different genres and music styles. I am a huge fan for the Swedish melodic
death metal band " Hypocrisy" and at the same time I love listening to opera,jazz,blues..etc. all that
effects my music.
12) Out of all the bands I have come across and band members I have talked
to, you have got to be one of the most appreciative guys I have yet to come in
contact with. Seems the little things excite you.
Do you think your personality shows at all in your music or is your music
simply the side of you that nobody else can see?
Lord Mist: In all the tracks I've created, it came from the other side of me that most
people don't know. They see me laughing but deep inside I am in pain, only a few
people know that, so the music shows another side of me that nobody
ever sees.
13) Well, it is time to say good bye my friend.
It has been a pleasure doing this interview with you.
Please say anything you would like to the people who love your music
(such as I do) or anything you feel we all need to know about the future of
Frostagrath.
Lord Mist: Thank you for your interview. It was a pleasure for me to do it.
As for all the fans out there, I recommend you not miss the upcoming releases for
FROSTAGRATH! It will be really different and has a unique and intense
atmosphere, so stay tuned for more updates very soon. Cheers !
