Ambient/Depressive Black Metal from Greece and
Germany... Created in the winter of 2012 by K. and S. and in the early 2013 M.
joined the band... The only release is the selfreleased demo
"Lugubre"...
I had the chance to speak with Vetusmora and right along with you I learned all there is to know....
Good
morning, or possibly afternoon where you hail. Are you in Greece or
Germany?
K.
: I am in Greece, as S. too and M. is the one from
Germany.
I will be honest, before a few days ago, I never heard of Vetusmora.
When I went to the band's Facebook page and realized how new you guys were I was a bit
turned off. Do you think being a "newer" band in what seems to be an ocean of
metal that comes at us from every direction is the hardest step in forming a
name for yourselves?
K.
: Of course it’s hard, but we started it just for
“fun”, we didn’t have plans until we realized that people liked it and asked for
our stuff to buy.
Despite
what I initially thought, I did stay and have a look around your Facebook
page....that is where my mind had been altered. I came up on one of your songs
posted called " Memories from a dreadful past" I sat and did nothing else but
listen to the 8 plus minute song....I must say I was impressed. What is the band
doing to promote yourselves and get people to take a moment to check out yet
another ADBM band?
K.
: Because Vetusmora is our side project, for now we
only promoting it by our Facebook page and in the future we are going to have an
official site. Also, a label has planned to release an EP tape soon, our first
official release.
The
song I am speaking of is off of Vetusmora's debut demo album "Lugubre". How is
or has this demo sold and what kinds of reactions have you gotten from listeners
or reviews?
K.
: Surprisingly, we didn’t expect that Vetusmora and
“Lugubre” will be so soon beloved. From the day we announced the release of this
demo, we had many orders and we were pleasantly
surprised.
Vetusmora
is made up of ...what is it, 3 guys?? Hailing from both Greece and Germany. What
is your role in the band and how does it work out being so far apart from your
other band mates?
K.
: The truth, as I said before, is that Vetusmora were
born just for “fun”!!! I wanted to make some depressive music, I said that to my
friend S. and we agreed to make a project. Then M. listened the two songs we had
recorded, he liked them and we asked him to join the band. We are all composing
the music and recording the strings, I make the keys and the vocals and N.(aka
Yngve - W.E.B./Mortuus Sum/Mors In Tabula/ex-Acherontas) will record the drums
for our next stuff.
I
know it is still early on in the bands career but are their any plans of live
gigs and possible tours in the future or is this not your
style?
K.
: No, certainly not for the near future. For now
Vetusmora is only a studio band.
Back
in April, your drummer left the band. Have you guys replaced him yet and if
not, what are your plans for getting a new drummer are you guys searching for
one? What qualifications are you looking for in a
drummer?
K.
: We are not searching for a new drummer because N.,
has not “left” us, he is a session member and, as I said, he will record the
drums for our next official work.
When
I was listening to your song I had another band in my head...I just couldn't
put my finger on it. Who are some of the bands influences and at what point do
you separate influences and Vetusmora having their own style and
sound?
K.
: We try to have our own style and I think we do,
‘cause all three of us have separate music influences and that appears on our
music. As you can listen, all the songs have something different to give to the
listener.
So,
if someone in Germany wants a copy of your new demo they can get it directly
from Apocalyptic Art Rec. What about outside of Germany? Have you looked for
distribution outside of Germany and possibly the
states?
K.
: The demo was released only on 60 hand numbered
copies and there are only few of them now. Anyone wants one can contact us and
we will send him a copy.
I
know your new demo is still new but what are your plans for a new album and
next time, will it maybe be a full length? I know I would love to hear more from
you guys.
K.
: Of course we have plans for a full album, we have
already started composing some new stuff and we hope we’ll have more news
soon.
I
hear a lot of "Old school" vibes coming from your sound. Does the music at all
reflect something personal in your lives or do you take anything out of life as
a whole and put it into your music?
K.
: I think misery is inextricably linked with the
daily life of everyone, more or less for everyone. We are trying to externalize
these feelings to our music.
A
Journey into the Depths of Nothingness is another song I had listened to
....again nothing shy of incredible. Everything just seems to fall into place
perfectly. I would have to guess that although Vetusmora might be still a baby,
the band members have some experience from past bands possibly? Have you guys
been involved in anything else or is this all your
first project/band?
K.
: All of us have our basic bands/projects. S. is a
member of Dizziness, M. plays at Apocalyptic Fire and Northern Frost and I had
Morbid Fog and now my projects are Theosis and
Ravndal.
You
guys released "Lugubre" on CD-R with it limited to 60 hand numbered
copies....depending on how it sells, will there be more made available and
possibly on Pro -CD or even Vinyl might be
cool...?
K.
: This is not in our plans because we are going to
re-record these three songs for our full album.
Christophe Szpajdel did Vetusmora's logo.
He did a great job...He actually did a Vinteress
Logo for me many years ago. :)
Are you satisfied with his work and do you
think he will possibly do future work for the band as
well?
K.
: I’d made the basic idea for the logo and then we
asked Christophe to make it better. After some days we had this awesome
Vetusmora logo in our hands. Now, for a future contribution, the only thing I
can say is “who knows”!!! I use to create all the artwork for Vetusmora but in
the future maybe…
Well,
I will once again be honest, because that is all I know how to do... It was
very difficult coming up with an interview of a band I know so little about. I
am glad I did though and I am glad I was introduced to you guys by Apocalyptic
Art! So, please use this time to mention anything you feel we did not touch on
during this interview. Thank you so much for your time and I look forward to
hearing MUCH more from Vetusmora!!!
K.
: We feel the need to thank you for the chance you
gave to us to tell some things about Vetusmora!!! Keep the black flame
alive!!!
